For long, many believed that men do not bond with their unborn child, stressing that miscarriage do not affect men.
According to the study published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (BJOG), men also experience feelings of loss, sadness, and helplessness immediately after their partner loses a pregnancy.
Compared with women, the psychological distress lasted for a shorter time in men as they were more optimistic about the possibility of future pregnancies.
The depressive symptoms after miscarrying were reported to be more severe in women in more troubled marriages and those in whom the fetal heartbeat was recorded on ultrasound before losing the pregnancy.
As for men, on the other hand, a planned pregnancy was the only risk factor contributing to higher depression, the study found.
Scientists concluded that the psychological impact of miscarriage on men is "less intense and enduring" than on women.
